Annual Grant Supports UTA CAPPA Students and Community Design Build Lab
The Architecture and Design Foundation, through the Bill & Jean Booziotis Scholarship Fund, is pleased to award an annual $5,000 grant to The University of Texas at Arlington College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs (CAPPA) to provide student support. The 2021 grant allowed CAPPA to:
- Provide emergency student assistance ($500). Earlier in the year, a student faced a point of crisis following damage to his personal residence. CAPPA was able to leverage student assistance through resources at the University and provide immediate assistance to ensure that this point of crisis did not serve as a barrier to his graduating in May 2021 with his Master of Architecture degree.
- Equip the Community Design Build Lab ($4,500). Located north of campus at 200 N. Cooper Street, this space is designed to provide hands-on, experiential learning opportunities for our architecture students in the Design Build Program, helping them to better understand the connection between good design, construction, and civic engagement. With the funds, CAPPA was able to purchase a new generator (with protection plan) and a portable plasma cutter.
The fund aims to provide an immediate solution to help address the gravity of students’ needs and allow them much-needed continuity towards completing their education. It is a part of the Architecture and Design Foundation’s Scholarship & Fellowship program that works to make college and careers accessible and bring diversity and equity to architecture.
