Join the AD EX to hear from 2022 McDermott & Swank Travel Fellow Hunter Bradshaw, AIA and 2023 McDermott Travel Fellow Alexandra Morales, Assoc. AIA.
Hunter’s study was spent in Germany, The Netherlands, and Austria, and focused on buildings with inventive material expressions that are placed in a historical context. These buildings are significant in how they express the time and place that they come from, while still connecting to the history and memory of their function and location.
Alexandra’s research trip explored four diverse regions of Portugal to analyze how nature, culture, and history have impacted the geometry and materiality of contemporary architecture in the country. She studied nine buildings designed by significant architects to understand how vernacular Portuguese craftsmanship has contemporary adaptations.
Architecture and Design Foundation Scholarship Committee Chair Peter Goldstein, AIA will lead a moderated Q&A following their presentations.
