Join us for an hour-long walking tour of Fair Park. First established for the Dallas State Fair in 1886, Fair Park is one of Dallas’ greatest assets and has been named a National Historic Landmark. In partnership with the Dallas Park and Recreation Department, the Dallas Architecture and Design Exchange presents hour-long lunchtime walking tours of this Art Deco gem on the third Wednesday of the month at several times throughout the year. They are free and open to the public.
In 1936, Fair Park was transformed for the Texas Centennial Exposition. Architect George Dahl and score of architects and craftsmen created what is today the finest collection of Art Deco exhibition buildings in the world. On the tour, you’ll learn about this process and the individuals involved, as well as recent and ongoing efforts to preserve and transform this architectural gem.
The tour begins at noon at the Parry Street entrance gate adjacent to the DART stop. Register for the tour by e-mailing info@DallasADEX.org. Please include Fair Park tour in the subject line.
