Event Details
AD EX is excited to collaborate with Better Block on their latest design competition. The challenge was designed to make architects, designers, urban planners, landscape planners, and community members rethink the average bus stop. Participants have been challenged to build their designs with limited, digitally fabricated supplies, a tight budget, and attention to DART’s specs. This year’s bus stop design competition was influenced by the concerns of local activists who’ve noticed the problem of poor air-quality at bus stops.
City Lab High School, recent grads from UTA, creatives/makers/doers from the neighborhood of all ages and interests, two architecture firms, two landscape architecture firms, and even a team from Boston will be showcasing their designs at the event. The nine participating teams include Studio Outside, Novaré Studio, CityLab HS, Motion Studio at Fitzpatrick Architects, TBG & Boka Powell, Harkensback, Culture House, Crum Collaboration, and OmniPlan.
AD EX will host several of the bus stop prototypes in our terrace space at Republic Center from May 13-31. Join us on May 16 for a Lunch Learning Session about the project. Better Block Managing Director Krista Nightengale will discuss the competition’s goals and overall process. Several of the design teams of the bus stops on display will also be here to discuss their inspirations and design processes.
We’ll gather at 11:30 a.m. for a casual look at the bus stops. Then, the presentation will begin at noon. Bring your lunch and experience the future of bus stop design.
