Event Details

Join Lily Cabatu Weiss, Executive Director of the Dallas Arts District, and Jill Magnuson, Hon. AIA Dallas, Vice-President of External Affairs for the Nasher Sculpture Center and Chair of the Dallas Arts District Infrastructure Committee for a discussion of the CONNECT Master Plan and the continuing evolution of the largest contiguous arts district in the country.

When the Arts District first began to coalesce in the 1980’s, urban planning and design firm Sasaki Associated was retained to prepare an Arts District Master plan. Some of the elements of that plan, from landscaping and hardscapes, zoning and design guidelines, persist to this day.

Beginning in 2016, the Arts District, in conjunction with urban planning firm nbbj, has been working on an evolution of that master plan. Prompted by continued development of the neighborhood and areas nearby as well as modernizing pedestrians’ use of the district, the plan’s stated goals include updating urban and development guidelines, improving the connections with downtown, increasing informal interactions with the public and expanding the district’s boundaries and enabling additional uses.

The plan has been drafted and is now before the Dallas City Council for review and adoption, hopefully by summer 2020. Join Lily and Jill to learn more about the master plan and participate in a discussion on the continued development of tone of our city’s biggest claims to fame.

We will gather at 11:30 a.m. with our brown bag lunches and the presentation and subsequent discussion discussion will begin at noon. RSVP by e-mailing info@DallasADEX.org; please include “Arts District CONNECT” in the subject line.
