Event Details
The current exhibition at AD EX is Evolving a Personal Style: The Architecture of Charles Dilbeck. Dilbeck (1907-1990) is one of Dallas’ most iconic architects. Combining signature elements of French Norman and Ranch styles through variations, symmetry, and asymmetry, he developed a personal architectural style that is instantly recognizable in his works in Dallas and other cities such as Tulsa. The exhibition employs large-scale photography highlighting a variety of buildings throughout the region to illustrate the common themes running through these unique structures.
For this Lunch Learning Session, Jann Mackey, Ph.D. will lead a discussion about how Dilbeck’s body of work fits into the broader picture of other residential architecture being produced at the time, both locally and nationally. We’ll compare his work with that of some of his Dallas peers, such as Hal Thomson, Clifford Hutsell, and Fooshee & Cheek, as well as some West Coast contemporaries.
Bring your lunch. We’ll gather for a look at the exhibition at 11:30, and Jann’s presentation will begin at noon. The event is free and open to the public. To RSVP, e-mail info@DallasADEX.org. Please include LLS: Jann Mackey in the subject line.
