Event Details

On Thursday, September 17, 2020, the Architecture and Design Foundation is participating in Communities Foundation of Texas’ North Texas Giving Day, a one-day online giving extravaganza for our whole region.
Last year, we were part of the success as Communities Foundation of Texas brought together nearly 3,000 local
nonprofits like us to raise $50 million for our region. Since its founding in 2009, North Texas Giving Day has inspired people to get up and give, resulting in increased donations and services provided in North Texas.

We invite you to join the movement and help us reach our goal of $10,000 on September 17. With your help, we can continue to inspire and support future generations of architects and designers, as well as advance our communities’ understanding of the power of architecture to enrich our city and our lives.

As part of this day of giving, you can support the Architecture and Design Exchange’s plan to address critical needs during this time, including:

  • Expanding K-12 programs, adding to the hundreds of students reached through our well-established Build Your City! program and Art of Architecture competition, as well as this year’s first-ever virtual summer camps. In addition, we recently launched at-home activities, and are continuing to develop new programs like a Frank Lloyd Wright workshop, Scout architecture merit badge sessions, and much more.
  • Continuing to develop dynamic exhibitions that explore and support building better communities, celebrating our architectural legacy (such as the wildly popular Evolving a Personal Style: The Architecture of Charles Dilbeck), and others investigating cutting-edge theories and developments.
  • Growing our scholarship program – not only the creation of new awards, but the enhancement of current offerings with higher grant amounts, like our spring grant to UTA CAPPA to assist students during the Covid-19 crisis, and the possibility of renewable resources over a student’s educational life.
  • In addition to our monthly Coffee & Conversations with civic leaders and new programs like CROSSROADS and the Place Setting Book Club going virtual, we are revitalizing past popular programs like film screenings, and point/counterpoint panel discussions and adapting for a virtual experience.

How you can help:

  • GIVE! On September 17, visit northtexasgivingday.org/DallasADEX and make a gift. You can even make a gift as early as today.
  • SPREAD THE WORD! Share our page via email, social media and text.
  • CREATE A FUNDRAISING PAGE! Show your commitment to our cause by creating a personal FUNdraising page and sharing it with your network.
  • VOLUNTEER! We wouldn’t be able to make as much of an impact without the tireless dedication of our volunteers. We appreciate all that they do and we always have a place for you. Our volunteer opportunities can be found here.

This fundraising campaign is vital to the life of our organization. Your personal contribution is a critical support to the next-generation design community and goes a long way in the production of more diverse programs for K-12 students, thoughtful and engaging exhibitions, learning sessions, and much more. Give today to help empower, educate, and influence future generations of architects and designers.

MAKING AN IMPACT

I am so honored to be a part of this program; AD EX and the Mary Kolb-Berglund Traveling Fellowship has helped me pursue my goals in ways I wouldn’t have otherwise been able to. I truly believe that as an architect one must keep exploring ideas, places, and cultures. To design for a changing world, one must change with it, and I want to thank AD EX for helping make that possible.
– Kaylee Lamb, 2019 Kolb-Berglund Traveling Fellow

What a wonderful and informative morning! The students and I enjoyed it a great deal. You are fortunate to have such an impressive architectural inventory in Dallas. Continued success with the AD EX program!
– Ian Caine, Architect and Professor

Even after practicing architecture for 35 years, I found out there was more history and fascinating stories about Dallas architecture than I ever imagined. I now get to describe that history and tell those stories to students, tourists and native Dallasites, and it’s extremely rewarding! I love it when a tour participant says, “I never thought about how much architecture affects our daily lives!”
– David Messersmith, FAIA, Professor and AD EX Walking Tour Docent
