Preserving Tomorrow

Preserving Tomorrow invites you to explore the captivating story of Mediterranean Gardens, a pioneering mid-century residential development in East Dallas. The exhibition highlights the vision, innovation, and community spirit that brought this unique neighborhood to life through original archival material, including architectural models, detailed plans, photographs, sales brochures, and news articles.

For the first time, this exhibition will formally document the rich and multi-faceted history of Mediterranean Gardens. Discover the groundbreaking work of J.P. Travis II and his influence on the post-war American skyline, delve into the innovative bioclimatic architectural research of Olgyay + Olgyay, and explore the neighborhood’s distinctive homes crafted by visionary architects.

Preserving Tomorrow chronicles a fascinating yet forgotten story in architectural history and provides valuable insights into sustainable design and engineering practices for contemporary audiences.

This exhibition paints a vivid picture of a neighborhood that has left an enduring mark on Dallas’ architectural heritage and demonstrates the architect’s value in designing spaces where individuals and communities can thrive.

Join us at the AD EX for a deeper look into the people, history, and design of Mediterranean Gardens. Victor Olgyay, FAIA, Principal at Rocky Mountain Institute, and son of the late Victor Olgyay, of Olgyay & Olgyay Architects, will discuss the Olgyay brothers’ contributions to the neighborhood and their pioneering work in sustainable design. Michael Thomas, President of the Highland Meadows Neighborhood Association, will share his passion for the area and the meaningful stories behind this hidden gem of Dallas.

Discover how thoughtful architecture can shape vibrant, lasting communities.

The Architecture and Design Exchange (ADEX) invites you to partner with us in bringing an exciting exhibition to life. Your support will help us create a space where individuals can find inspiration and appreciate the enduring beauty of architecture. Together, we can make this vision a reality.
