A HOUSE FOR TEXAS, a reflection on the historic Elbert Williams House built in 1933 and designed by Dallas architect David R. Williams. The home is “considered to be the finest example of modern Texas regional residential architecture ever built in the state.” The first recipient of the AIA Dallas Historic Architecture Award, the residence was long considered to be at risk of a tear down, but has since been saved. In the book, author Larry Good contrasts the Elbert Williams House with other, more traditional houses of the 1930s, lamenting that the home’s significance and its position in the overall context of Texas’ architectural history may not be fully understood by most people. This is a legitimate concern which A HOUSE FOR TEXAS addresses through accomplished writing and the striking photography of architectural photographer Charles Davis Smith, FAIA.
